Insight Meditation for Enlightenment!

Insight Meditation (Vipassana) is a meditation technique taught by Lord Buddha. It is very simple and is beyond religious affiliation.

It is an internal introspection that will bring about profound revelation to those who are sincere and earnest in their quest for truth. Lord Buddha teaches to look within oneself for the truths of life.

Not surprisingly, Lord Jesus Christ taught the same thing when he said “the kingdom of heaven is within you and outside of you.”

Through internal revelation, with practice and the pursuit of truth, the teachings of our greatest spiritual masters will become self-evident as you discover your true Self.

Lord Buddha taught to not believe in anything without internal contemplation and meditation upon it first. Then if it is seen and revealed as good, and for the benefit of all, believe in it.

To begin Insight Meditation first be free from distractions. Begin with 5 to 10 minutes and gradually increase the duration. Allow yourself to be guided by intention and intuition.

Intend to seek the truth, Intend to cultivate inner peace and harmony, and then go with the flow. There is no right or wrong way, everyone ultimately finds their own path; it is the intent and desire for truth that ultimately leads you to its revelation.

Be free of distractions and focus on the moment. Be calm and still. Sit in a comfortable manner, on a chair or on the floor. The only requirement in sitting is that your back remains straight. Place your hands in a comfortable position together in your lap or separated on your legs palms up with your thumb and forefinger touching.

Take a couple deep breaths and exhale slowly. Become centered and relaxed. Breathe regularly and watch the breath, focus your attention on your breath, just observe it.

As thoughts enter your mind, simply let them pass, keeping your attention on your breath. Give no energy to thoughts. Gradually, your thoughts will diminish and your awareness of Self will rise above mind.

Through continued practice, the peace of mind acquired during meditation will remain and your mind will be free from meaningless and negative thoughts. You will have regained control of your mind, and peace will be with you.

Insight Meditation Burst

After you become comfortable with the basics described above, and once you have come to understand the nature of mind and the truth beyond ego and illusion, begin to incorporate forgiveness, and compassion into your meditation.

When negative thoughts or events from the past come up, sincerely forgive them, and let them go. To forgive others is to forgive yourself.

The understanding that humanity is trapped in an illusion caused by the ego brings about compassion for all those who suffer. When people do wrong, it is not the real them, they are in illusion. Compassion and forgiveness are two of the greatest abilities those who are capable can foster. They benefit all of existence.

Insight meditation is that simple. Set aside the physical world for a time and observe your inner world.

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find anything that agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.
